Horns look to Herb Hand for O-Line overhaul

The hype around Herb Hand might even rival the attention paid to some of the Longhorns’ top recruits. That’s what happens when you’re the 4th coach in four years of a position group in major need of an overhaul.

“I’ve spent time watching last year’s film just to get an idea of who’s who and what’s what,” the Texas offensive line coach said. “But I’m real excited about the group. Like I said, I think there’s some really good pieces there. We still have a lot of development to do, but I’m excited about the experience that’s coming back.”

Head coach Tom Herman made the 27-year coaching veteran his new offensive line coach when the NCAA approved a 10th assistant coach.

It’s no secret that another average offensive line unit likely equals another average season for Texas. But with this 'helping hand', the Longhorns think they landed a gem.

“There hasn’t been a problem that any of us have encountered that he doesn’t have an answer for.” junior offensive lineman Zach Shackelford said. “He’s really knowledgeable about the game and has a lot of cool techniques he’s taught us.”

Preseason camp continues Saturday with the Longhorns second practice.
