Every child deserves the basic things we all take for granted: like a family to call your own. Yet, in the Austin area, nearly 1,000 children live in foster care and are waiting to be adopted. On average, these kids will move seven different times before leaving the foster care system.

As kids get older, their chances for adoption decreases. And other factors, like being part of a sibling group or having special needs, can impact a foster child's likelihood of being adopted.

In conjunction with Partnerships for Children and with the support of Henna Chevrolet, CBS Austin highlights foster children available for adoption through the Forever Families initiative. Each week, CBS Austin gives viewers a glimpse into the eyes of a child in foster care waiting to find a family of their own.

In 2018, Partnerships for Children, which is dedicated to empowering and supporting abused and neglected children in the care of Child Protective Services, helped 11,122 kids in foster care and helped 71 find their forever families.

Partnerships for Children provides a supply room in CPS buildings that's open 24/7 in case a child needs something at any time of day, be it toiletries, clothing, school supplies, diapers, or a toy. They also provide community mentors to youth who are likely to age out of the foster care system, give gifts to children at the holidays, and last but certainly not least, they help foster children find their forever homes.

One of the many ways Partnerships for Children brings these kids to life is through the Heart Gallery. Here, Texas photographers shine a light on foster children by taking portraits that allow you to see their beautiful personalities reflected in ways that extend beyond words.

All of these little things that say, "you're not alone" and "we care" can add up over a child's life and can change the course of their future. Click here to learn how you can help.
