Every child deserves a permanent, safe, and loving home. In the Austin area, nearly 1,000 children live in foster care and are waiting to be adopted. On average, these kids will move seven different times before leaving the foster care system.
As kids get older, their chances for adoption decreases. And other factors, like being part of a sibling group or having special needs, can impact a foster child’s likelihood of being adopted.
In conjunction with Partnerships for Children and with the support of Henna Chevrolet, CBS Austin highlights foster children available for adoption through the Forever Families initiative. Each week, CBS Austin gives viewers a glimpse into the eyes of a child in foster care waiting to find a family of their own.
Partnerships for Children, which is dedicated to empowering and supporting abused and neglected children in the care of Child Protective Services, also brings these kids to life in its Heart Gallery. Here, Texas photographers shine a light on foster children by taking portraits that allow you to see their beautiful personalities reflected in ways that extend beyond words.
Unfortunately, not all children find their forever family. Many stay in foster care until they are considered legal adults. This means they often don’t have a trusted adult to turn to for help, advice, or support as they navigate into adulthood. Partnerships for Children’s YES Mentoring (Youth Empowerment and Success) program provides mentorship for those young adults preparing to age out of foster care without a forever family.
