Bakersfield Heart Hospital releases surveillance video of gunman, panic

A still image from surveillance video released by Bakersfield Heart Hospital shows a gunman who had shot out a glass door Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, to gain entry to the hospital. The suspect, Brandon Clark, was later shot by police.

Bakersfield Heart Hospital has released a clip of surveillance video showing a gunman who was later shot by officers.

The video shows Brandon Clark shooting out the glass at the back door of the hospital and heading inside late Friday afternoon. Staff and visitors inside quickly headed for cover after the shots rang out.

Clark, 44, from Big Sur, then exited the hospital and encountered police, where he was shot.

Clark is currently in the hospital with critical injuries, according to the Police Department.

No officers were injured in the shooting, and no hospital staff or patients were injured.

Detectives believe that Clark is related to one of the employees, however, that person was unaware that Clark was there at the time. Police do not believe this person was the target of the shooting.

Investigators believe Clark may have been under the influence of narcotics at the time of the shooting.

Clark is facing numerous firearm and assault-related charges.
