US Marshals searching for man who brutally attacked ex-girlfriend
Carlos Moreno-Mejia, 22, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for a brutal attack on his ex-girlfriend in January.
"Carlos came in, stabbed his ex-girlfriend, I would say it's best described as carving her like a pumpkin," said Deputy U.S. Marshal Brandon Filla. "When officers arrived on scene, she was tied with her hands and her legs and was bleeding profusely. He hit a major artery on her leg, she had a major laceration from her left hip down to her left knee."
He's also accused of stabbing two others who tried to help. Police said he then took off heading south.
"We believe that Carlos fled the Austin area probably at that time was in some part of San Antonio continuing south," said Filla.
They later found his red Dodge Charger abandoned along I-35 in San Antonio. Now they think he may have fled to his native Honduras and believe he had help doing it.
"We do have an ongoing investigation which indicates that he did receive assistance from close associates and family members here in the Austin area. We are asking them to reach out to us to provide that insight," said Filla.
The victim in this case did survive and U.S. Marshals want to bring her attacker to justice.
"She had a guardian angel that day, to still be here today with us. But we still continue that manhunt for Carlos to make him feel as uncomfortable as possible, to make him look over his shoulder every day until we find him," said Filla.
