US Marshals searching for man accused of killing his roommate in North Austin
A man shoots and kills his roommate in their North Austin driveway in March and hasn't been seen since. Austin police arrived at the home on Bird Creek Dr. on March 12, 2017 where they found a 53-year-old man shot multiple times.
"The victim was lying there with gunshot wounds to his back area," said Deputy U.S. Marshal Brandon Filla.
Authorities say the victim got in a fight with his roommate, 34-year-old Jose Medel Martinez-Lopez.
"There was a brief argument over moving some vehicles out of the driveway," said Filla. "Our target and the victim are outside arguing, and shots are fired."
The victim was taken to UMC Brackenridge where he later died.
"Martinez leaves in a vehicle that is registered to his wife, and hasn't been seen since," said Filla.
Martinez-Lopez is a Mexican citizen and U.S. Marshals believe he could have gone back to Mexico.
"A lot of times in a violent case like this, that's the first thing they do. If they're from that country, that's more than likely where they'll go back to," said Filla.
But Martinez-Lopez's wife and children are still in Central Texas. Authorities hope someone will give them a tip that will get a violent criminal off the streets and help bring justice to the victim's family.
"He left behind a wife and children so I'm sure they want closure," said Filla.
