Austin firefighters freed two people from an RV that flipped over during a severe thunderstorm early Monday morning.

Firefighters said the 911 call came in just before 2:00 a.m. at the Oak Forest RV Park in the 8200 block of Canoga Avenue, near Hidden W Boulevard and Decker Lane.

They were able to free a woman from the RV pretty quickly, but a man in his 70's was pinned inside by furniture and the trailer itself.

It took nearly an hour to free him. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to be OK.

It appears only one trailer in the entire park was damaged.

"It's pretty strange how that one was affected and all the rest were not," said Austin Fire Department Battalion Chief Stephen Truesdell. "It's right up here on top of this hill at the front of the park, so it might have just taken the brunt of a big wind blast."

Truesdell said they did not have any reports of tornado activity, so he believes the damage was just caused by strong winds.
