East Austin shooting leaves one person dead, another injured
Police are investigating a shooting in East Austin Thursday evening that left one person dead and another injured.
It happened at around 6:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Poquito Street, southwest of the Pleasant Valley Road and Rosewood Avenue intersection.
A Watch Commander with Austin Police said two people were shot -- one was killed, the other's injuries were not life-threatening.
Austin Police believe the man killed was in his 20s.
They are looking for multiple suspects.
According to investigators, the victims and suspects knew each other, and arranged a meeting at the scene of the shooting.
At some point during the meeting, a suspect or suspects shot the victims.
Detectives are still investigating what led up to the shooting.
"It's unknown. We're still following up on that. This is a gang known area, also a high narcotics area for Austin Police, so we do have the organized crime division speaking to witnesses," said Officer Albino Cadenas.
One person has been detained, but officials say this person was a witness, not a suspect.
