Two in jail after shooting up local restaurant

Two people are in jail this holiday after being arrested for shooting up a local chicken restaurant.

According to arrest affidavits, on Friday December 22, Vanessa Hernandez, 18, and Mario Raymond Martinez, 28, accompanied another individual who entered the Pollo Regio at the intersection of E William Cannon Drive and S Congress Avenue and spoke to the manager about retrieving a paycheck.

After the manager informed the individual their check was mailed, the individual became irate and grabbed a knife and started swung wildly, according to court records.

A witness states that they left the restaurant and left to call 911. The witness states that they observed Mario Hernandez’s truck leaving the premises after hearing gunshots. The witness told police that the truck stopped along the curb near Circle S Drive and S Congress Ave. before leaving again.

Several other witnesses told police that they observed Vanessa Hernandez handling a rifle.

Officers located the truck at a gas station on Circle S Road. A bystander pointed out Mario Hernandez as a suspect in the shooting. A long rifle shell casing was located on the floorboard.

Police located a 22 long rifle in the ditch close to where Hernandez’s truck had stopped earlier. The firearm had been reported stolen out of Bastrop.

During questioning, Mario Hernandez stated Vanessa fired the rifle and he reloaded so she could continue firing, according to the affidavit.

Both are currently in the Travis County Jail and charged with Deadly Conduct Discharging Firearm At Individuals. Vanessa Hernandez has a bail of $25,000.
