Texas to issue February SNAP benefits early due to shutdown
AUSTIN, Texas —
Thousands of Texas residents on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive their February benefits early due to the government shutdown.
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission issued a release stating that Texas and other states received guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to issue the benefits early to help clients through the next month.
SNAP recipients will have their February benefits loaded onto their Lone Star card on January 20. The department is urging recipients to space out their purchases throughout the month.
Benefits for SNAP are worth $410 million and are 100% federally funded.
