2019 Souper Bowl of Caring kicks off
Students and adult volunteers are learning about philanthropy by supporting their local food bank.
"Our focus in Central Texas is to raise 3 million meals in the next month before the big game happens," said Alison Reese, the executive director of Souper Bowl of Caring.
The 'souper' name that plays off the big game that's coming soon actually came from a pastor's prayer.
"And the prayer was, 'lord, even as we watch this game today let us be mindful of those who don't have a bowl of soup to eat,'" Reese said.
Five youth groups took those words to heart and had food drives the very next year. That was 30 years ago.
Both Randalls are and H-E-B are making it easy for their customers to buy the particular foods the food bank needs, or you can make a donation at the register.
