Shoplifting suspect attacks Walmart employee, off-duty officer with knife
SAN ANTONIO - Police arrested a woman who apparently slashed a Walmart worker with a knife and stabbed an off-duty police officer while shoplifting.
According to police, the suspect, described as a 24-year-old woman, grabbed some items and started walking toward a cash register when she slashed the Walmart employee at the store on Vance Jackson near I-10 early Friday morning. At that point, investigators said the worker did not realize the woman was attempting to steal merchandise.
A witness alerted an off-duty Floresville police officer who was working security at the store and the officer began to struggle with the suspect.
Officers say that's when the woman slashed the officer in the back of the head and stabbed him under the chin.
The injured officer was taken to University Hospital for treatment. The suspect was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault on a public servant.
