Police ID man found dead from gunshot wound at South Austin apartment
Police have identified the man found dead from a gunshot wound Monday afternoon at a South Austin apartment. A $1,000 reward is also being offered for information on a possible shooting suspect.
It happened at around 1:45 p.m. at the Post South Lamar Apartments, located in the 1500 block of South Lamar, about a mile south of the Barton Springs Road intersection.
Investigators with the Austin Police Department said officers responded to a call of shots fired at the complex and found 32-year-old Christian Meroney with obvious head trauma. First responders attempted to resuscitate him, but he was declared dead just before 2 p.m.
The Travis County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy Tuesday morning and ruled Meroney died from a gunshot wound. Evidence left behind at the scene was collected by homicide detectives and is being processed in an effort to identify the suspect, APD said.
Residents of the apartment complex said Meroney's body was found on the third floor. Resident Anabel Winiecki said, "There was a bullet hole in the bottom of one of the doors and there's a bullet that ricocheted onto the wall."
