Police ID bicyclist killed near UT campus after collision with CapMetro bus

Police have identified the bicyclist killed Monday night after he was struck by a Capital Metro bus near the University of Texas campus as 39-year-old Anthony John Diaz. (CBS Austin)

Police have identified the bicyclist killed Monday night after he was struck by a Capital Metro bus near the University of Texas campus.

It happened at around 10:30 p.m. on Jacinto Boulevard near the E. 23rd Street intersection, which is close to the Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium.

Investigators with UT Police said the man was riding a bicycle northbound next to a CapMetro bus when he was pulled under the bus and pinned.

He died at the scene. He has been identified as 39-year-old Anthony John Diaz.

UT Police said he is not a student at the university. He was wearing a helmet and had the required lights on his bike at the time of the collision.

UT Police said some people on the bus at the time of the crash left the scene before officers arrived. They are asked to call 512-471-4441. ext. 9, to speak to a detective.
