Austin Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian dead. It happened Thursday around 8:45 p.m. on I-35 northbound near Riverside Drive, just north of Lady Bird Lake.

Austin-Travis County EMS says a man, possibly in his 30s, was declared deceased at the scene.

Investigators closed the interstate to northbound traffic of about two hours. Police say they don’t have any information about the vehicle or the driver that struck the individual crossing the Interstate, but they are looking for them. The drivers who did stop on scene were only those who saw the aftermath.

"We have witnesses that observed people swerve around the body, but we don’t exactly know a specific vehicle that hit the body right now," said APD Officer Nathan Blake.

Austin Police are asking anyone who observed the crash to call their vehicular homicide unit at 512-974-5489.

Further details were not immediately available.
