One person has died following an auto-pedestrian collision Wednesday night in Central Austin, causing other vehicles to crash.

Austin-Travis County EMS said the call came in at 7:23 p.m. reporting a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle near 5300 North IH-35.

ATCEMS said the person on foot was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The Austin Police Department says the crash caused three other minor crashes due to rubbernecking.

TxDOT said the northbound lanes of the interstate just before 51st Street are all closed. Traffic is being diverted to the frontage road at 51st.

Expect traffic delays in the area and extended road closures, and choose alternate routes if possible. The case is under investigation.

We will update the story as soon as we have more information.
