New Austin resident victim of porch pirate just weeks after moving in
AUSTIN, Texas —
An Austin man is hoping to catch a package thief after one was stolen off his front porch just weeks after moving to his new neighborhood in North Austin.
Westin Magenheimer has only lived on Macmora Road for a few weeks, but he’s already having second thoughts about safety after a package pirate walked up to his front door on Macmora Rd. Wednesday around 3 p.m. and stole a package right off his front porch.
"It was a lamp. Yeah, I was supposed to have two, and I ended up with one, so that's what he took off with," he said, “He walked right up with complete confidence, it seems, with a camera in front of him.”
Magenheimer installed the doorbell camera only two days before the thief made off with his package. He even got a notification, but at the time didn’t think much of it. Now, he’s using this situation as a lesson.
"I keep an eye on this every time it dings me, and I take a look and you can talk through it too," He said.
He’s hoping someone will recognize the thief who appears to be tall, with a light complexion, wearing a dark shirt and dark hat.
Magenheimer says he plans to put up more cameras and get a lock box for his packages to prevent another package theft from happening again.
