FBI: Two taken to hospital after suspicious substance found in package at IRS building
AUSTIN, Texas —
A reported suspicious package found at the IRS building in south Austin prompted a hazardous material investigation Friday afternoon.
Austin Fire, Police and ATCEMS responded to 3600 block of S IH-35 close to 12:20 p.m.
The FBI is leading the investigation, according to Austin Police.
According to the FBI, a package disperse a "suspicious substance" into the air when opened and exposed several employees. At least one employee reported a "negative reaction."
Austin-Travis County EMS says 18 people were involved, and two adult females were taken to Dell Seton with non life-threatening complaints.
The substance will be taken to an FBI lab for further analysis.
