Motorcyclist killed after collision with tow truck near Buda
A motorcyclist died Monday after colliding with a tow truck near Buda, DPS officials say.
It happened at approximately 4:24 p.m. on FM 1626 about 3 miles northwest of Buda.
DPS investigators say a tow truck was traveling southwest on FM 1626 when it stopped in the turn lane and made a U-turn at Lakewood Dr. But the turn was too wide, so the driver had to reverse back onto FM 1626.
That's when a motorcycle, traveling at a high-rate of speed on northeast on FM 1626, crashed into the tow truck, becoming wedged underneath it.
The driver of the motorcycle -- identified as 20-year-old Mackenzie Aloysius Gmitter, of Buda -- was transported to St. David's South Austin Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
Further details were not immediately available.
