On Monday morning, the Montopolis steel truss bridge closed to vehicular traffic forever.

The 80-year-old bridge will be rehabilitated and converted into a hike and bike trail that will link to other trails and parks.

The closure is part of the 183 South Project by the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, who says traffic from Cesar Chavez will be shifted to a new bridge and access US 183 southbound above the Colorado River.
