Medic, patient killed when suspected drunk driver hits ambulance in Edinburg

The driver who hit a Hidalgo County EMS ambulance, killing a medic and a patient, has been identified as Mitchell Trevino, 34, according to documents obtained by CBS 4.
Trevino is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon on two charges of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault.
Edinburg Police have identified two people killed with a suspected drunk driver crashed into a Hidalgo County EMS ambulance Sunday afternoon.
Felipe Huerta, Jr., 32, and his patient, Delia Cortines, 68, died when the driver of a Ford F-250 drove into oncoming traffic and hit the ambulance head-on, police said.
A second medic, identified as Andrea Rodriguez, 24, is in the hospital and expected to recover. She was in the back of the ambulance attending to Cortines at the time of the crash.
Edinburg police say the driver of the F-250, a 34-year-old male, is in police custody pending criminal charges.
Police plan to release his name and his charges tomorrow after he is formally arraigned.
Hidalgo County Sheriff J.E. Guerra said Monday morning that investigators suspect the driver was drunk.
