Lago Vista homeowners preparing for even higher lake levels
In Lago Vista, dozens of homes have already flooded as Lake Travis continues to rise.
Homeowners who live along the lake spent the last several days preparing for the rising water. While some have already flooded, others are bracing for the possibly this weekend.
George Karr spent Thursday and Friday moving everything from the lowest, basement level of his home to the second story. Larger, heavy items will go on risers or be wrapped in plastic.
"It's a little bit scary and frustrating when there's just nothing you can do," said Karr.
Karr hoped the LCRA would open floodgates at the Mansfield Dam Wednesday to alleviate some of the flooding, but it has yet to happen.
"Before we went to bed (Tuesday) night, we said the lake is probably going to come up two feet tomorrow and when we got up we saw it was already four feet, and we thought, this is not going to be good," said Karr.
Karr said he will continue doing what he can to prepare. All the while, hoping and praying Mother Nature cuts them a break.
"The only thing that is going to stop water from coming into this basement is being totally ready for it to come in," said Karr.
There are also a handful of road closures in Lago Vista making it difficult for some people to reach or leave their homes. Check atxfloods.com for the latest road closures, and remember to never cross a barricade.
