International soccer club FC Barcelona opening school in Austin

International soccer club FC Barcelona announced on Thursday that they will be opening a soccer school in Austin.

The school will be part of the club's "FCBEscola" program to teach youth soccer players--both boys and girls--from 6 to 16 "the methodology, style of play and values that have made FC Barcelona one of the top soccer clubs in the world," according to a press release.

“The City of Austin and the Austin Sports Commission have been instrumental in bringing FC Barcelona’s Escola system to the city," said Marc Segarra, co-founder of ISL Futbol, the largest partner of FC Barcelona in the United States. "This new program will not only help local players experience firsthand the best international, professional and developmental soccer pathway but will also put Austin on a global soccer stage.”

The FCBEscola Austin will offer supplemental training programs in several locations around the city, including Round Rock Multipurpose Complex and Circuit of the Americas.

The club says COTA owner Bobby Epstein has announced intentions to build a soccer field for the use of FC Barcelona.

According to the club, certain FCBEscola players could be selected for an “FCB Experience”, which includes a trip to Barcelona to practice and play at the FC Barcelona Ciutat Esportiva. FC Barcelona says several former professional players for the club and UEFA Pro licensed coaches will live an work full time in Austin to "guarantee the authenticity, legitimacy and professionalism" of FCBEscola.

The FCBEscola Austin will join the FC Barcelona family of schools located around globe in locations like Tokyo, Dubai, Sao Paolo and Moscow.
