Houston-area teacher accused of using racial slur
A substitute is taking over one Texas teacher's job after alleged racist comments in the classroom.
Rashonda Davis sits down with her 13-year-old daughter every day after school. But a conversation earlier this week came as a shock. Her daughter shared something other students told her about a seventh grade teacher.
"He called his African-American kids cotton pickers. And I was like what?" Davis said. "When I hear that word it's like slavery. It was like, wow, a teacher? Somebody that these kids are supposed to look up to you?"
Spring ISD near Houston confirmed they are looking into the allegations. The teacher has been placed on administrative leave. They spoke with other students yesterday who also said they heard racial slurs.
