AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — The family of Douglas John Kantor has released a statement following the death of the 25-year-old, who was shot and killed during a mass shooting event in downtown Austin that injured 13 others early Saturday morning.

A juvenile male has been arrested in connection to the shooting. Another suspect remains at large.

Reporter Christian Flores spoke to the family shortly after Austin police announced he had succumbed to his wounds Sunday afternoon, after fighting for his life for almost 36 hours.

They said Doug was originally from Airmont, New York, and had been living in Michigan after receiving his bachelor's degree in computer engineering from Michigan State University.

He had gone on to work in the IT department for the Ford Motor Company as a product manager, where the family says he was quickly advancing.

He motivated everyone he came in contact with, was a team player," the statement reads.

While continuing his education at the University of Michigan, Kantor bought his first house and later received his masters's degree in business.

He also developed a website for his brother and father's air conditioning and heating business.

The family says he was looking forward to marrying his high school sweetheart of 10 years and starting a family.

He was loved by all who knew him and had an infectious smile that would light up any room. He was loved by his family, friends, and everyone who met him.

The pain of his loved ones in the wake of his death was not lost in their final quote, stating "this senseless tragedy has put an end to all his dreams."

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family with funeral arrangements and other expenses.
