H-E-B ranked top grocer, USAA among best insurance companies on Best Large Company list

SAN ANTONIO - Forbes released its latest list of America’s Best Large Employers and two San Antonio based companies are in the Top 50 out of 500 employers.

Grocery giant H-E-B ranked No. 5 on the list, which makes it the top grocer in America, while USAA ranks No. 42 on the list, among the top insurance companies in the nation.

The list was complied by Forbes, along with market research firm Statista, who surveyed around 45,000 workers at American companies with 5,000 or more employees. The workers were asked if they would recommend their current employer or another company to other people looking for work.

H-E-B, which employs about 145,000 people, placed ahead of several other multi-million and billion-dollar corporations, including Google, Microsoft and Fidelity Investments. It is the leading grocer in Forbes list. The other top grocers on the list are Trader Joe’s (16), Costco Wholesale (25), Wegmans (44), Publix (82), Aldi (85), Whole Foods (306), Target (312), Amazon (375), and Meijer (439).

USAA, which began in 1922, employs around 36,000 people.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ranked No. 1 on the list followed by Houston Methodist (2), Mayo Clinic (3). Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Tennessee (4) who are also in the Top 5.

Founded in 1861, MIT is recognized as one of the world’s leading institutions in science and technology has more than 15,000 employees.
