Five Austin ISD campuses honoring Confederates to be renamed this semester

AUSTIN, Texas — Five Austin ISD campuses named after Confederate figures will be renamed this semester, after the school board voted on the changes in February.

As classes begin, naming committees at each school are now at work .

The new namesakes will have to meet strict criteria, including, advocating for social justice, fighting against racism, redefining the status quo, and being a historical figure.

Campuses to be renamed include:

  • The John T. Allan facility
  • Zachary Taylor Fulmore Middle School
  • Sidney Lanier Early College High School
  • John H. Reagan Early College High School
  • Eastside Memorial Early College High School at the Johnston Campus (named for Confederate General Albert Sidney Johnston)
