This Saturday, the Texas Department of Transportation will temporarily close the southbound lanes of I-35 from SH 45 to 11th Street for Richard Overton's funeral procession.

Police will be on hand to provide traffic control as the procession makes its way to the Texas State Cemetery.

At the time of his death on December 27th, Overton was the nation's oldest-living World War II veteran at 112.

On Friday, January 11th, a public viewing will be held at the Cook-Walden Funeral Home at 6100 N. Lamar Blvd. from noon to 7 p.m.

Overton's funeral will be held at the Shorline Church at 15201 Burnet Road on Saturday, January 12th at 11 a.m.

Following that, Mr. Overton will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. at the Texas State Cemetery.

Also on Saturday and Sunday, TxDOT will close both the north and southbound lanes of I-35 between 183 and Rundberg Lane to allow Austin Energy to string lines across the highway.
