Man killed in Downtown Austin shooting, son in custody

A man is dead after a shooting Thursday night in Downtown Austin.

Austin Police state that they responded to a call at the Towers of Town Lake, off Town Lake near Rainey Street district, and found 66 year-old NadirAbdeladmin with multiple gunshot wounds inside a residence.

Austin Fire and medics with Austin-Travis County EMS attempted to revive the victim butAbdeladmin was declared deceased on scene.

Witness told APD that the victim's son, 30-year-old HakimAbdeladmin, was seen fleeing the building. Authorities located the son in the parking lot of an adjacent hotel.

Police noted blood on the son's clothing. He was taken into custody and is being held in the Travis County Jail pending formal charges.

Nadir and his wife were the only two who lived at the complex. Hakim lived in Lago Vista.

"The only two people in the apartment were him and his father, so we don't know if an actual argument ensued. I think there's some long-term issues going on with the family. We can't say for sure," said Sgt. Tracy Gerrish.

Police did mention they're looking into the mental health of Hakim. They're also checking with ATF to see who the gun was registered with. Police said the weapon appear to be an AR-15.

This is the fourth homicide of the year in Austin.
