Deputies in Hays County are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who broke into and vandalized an elementary school in Buda.

It happened early Thursday morning at Carpenter Hill Elementary School, located in the 4400 block of FM 967.

The Hays County Sheriff's Office says the suspect caused extensive damage to the interior of the school. He may have been driving a dark colored passenger car.

"It is frustrating and disappointing to have this happen," said Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright. "Our teachers and campus employees are busy getting the school ready for classes to start at the end of the month. It is a time of excitement for a new school year. Having someone break in to the school and vandalize it just simply makes me angry."

Hays CISD says it is working with a restoration and cleaning company to have the campus ready for teachers and students to return in the coming days.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 512-393-7875.
