Caritas in downtown Austin will reopen Wednesday morning after a shooting took place last Friday.

The community kitchen on Neches Street has spent the past days reviewing their safety protocols and says they don’t want these kinds of situations to happen again.

According to Austin police, on Friday, a man identified as 30 year-old Phillip Lamar Southerland got into a fight with a security guard when he reached for the guard’s gun and pulled the trigger. The bullet went through a wall, hitting a volunteer dishwasher in the leg.

Then man has since then been arrested and today Caritas will resume services.
