The Cedar Park community is mourning the loss of a 17-year-old Vista Ridge High School student. Myles Hutcheson was killed in a crash on Brushy Creek Road Monday morning, less than a mile from the school.

Vista Ridge High School head boys basketball coach Clint Anderson says Hutcheson was one-of-a-kind and made a lasting impression on the students and teachers who knew him. A junior and varsity athlete, Hutcheson was a leader on and off the court. Anderson described Hutcheson as so friendly, positive and kind that if you didn't know him you might not know if he was serious.

"I know that I've changed a little bit because of Myles and I know I'm not the only one. Everyone he's touched and reached out to and talked to feels the same exact way about him," Anderson says.

The 17-year-old was known to set an example -- even for people two or three times his age.

"We're the adults. We're supposed to be teaching them how to act and then you have this kid that is so genuine and it makes you reevaluate the way you're going through life and your paths and the way you want to treat everybody," Anderson explains.

Cedar Park Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Hutcheson's vehicle was the only one involved. It happened early Monday morning about the same time Hutcheson typically arrives for 6 a.m. basketball practice.

Tuesday, friends and classmates left balloons, flowers, basketballs and crosses at the scene... small ways to mark the big way Hutcheson impacted their lives.

"I came across a quote a couple months ago and Myles came to mind when I saw it. It was... 'it doesn't cost one candle anything to light another candle,' and Myles learned that at a very early age and that's what he did his entire life," Anderson says.

The Vista Ridge varsity boys basketball team was scheduled to play their first district game Tuesday night. The team voted to postpone the game until Wednesday.
