What did you have for breakfast today? Supporters of Austin Police Operation Blue Santa started their day with food and fellowship while helping Blue Santa get closer to meeting its 2018 goals.

Wednesday morning everyone who loves Blue Santa gathered at the Austin Marriott South for the annual Blue Santa Breakfast. Austin Police Chief Brian Manley explains, "This is a great event we have every year This is the day to donate and really allow us as a community to really make the holiday season and Christmas better for those that just don't have everything."

Academy donated dozens of bikes to be given to needy families, and there's a reason they partnered with Blue Santa. Spokeswoman Alison Mooney says, “For the last 16 years Academy Sports and Outdoor has donated thousands of bikes to local organizations and this year we really wanted to partner with first responders to give back to our community."

The Blue Santa Breakfast is always open to the public, and some have made it a family tradition. Elaine Copeland says, "We've been coming for 18 years. It's a good project to help the community. These guys always bring gifts." And her coworker Lindsay Phillips chimes in, "I think it's important for the kids to learn how to give, so they pick out toys that they want and then they have to give them away."

If you missed the Blue Santa Breakfast don't forget there are always plenty of other ways to help them in their important work.
