Buc-ee's in Bastrop deemed safe after bomb threat
BASTROP, Texas —
Officials evacuated a convenience store in Bastrop after a bomb threat was received Sunday afternoon, according to the city.
Employees and customers were evacuated from Buc-ee’s, located at the intersection of TX 21 and TX 95 in Bastrop while authorities searched the property with the Austin Bomb Squad.
Members of Bastrop County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Emergency Services District #2, Bastrop Police and Fire responded and assisted in working the scene, which was cleared and staff allowed to return.
“Threats of this nature are taken very seriously. The safety of our residents, our visitors, Buccee’s staff and our public safety personnel remain our top priority,” said Public Safety Director Chief James Altgelt. “I am thankful to Austin Police Chief Brian Manley and the Austin Bomb Squad-unit, our partners at the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Bastrop County Sherriff’s Office and Emergency Services District #2, and to the men and women of the Bastrop Police and Fire Departments for their response this evening.”
The incident remains under investigation even though no evidence of a device was located.
Officials do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public and believe this was an isolated incident.
