Austin's water utility said Wednesday that a manhole in a remote area of East Austin overflowed more than 100,000 gallons of sewage last week.

It happened Friday near the intersection of Boggy Creek and Hwy 183, Austin Energy said. Crews were able to repair the manhole and the City of Austin water supply is not affected.

Communities downstream of the overflow have been notified by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

But people using a private well within a half mile of the incident should have their water supply tested and only use water that has been distilled or boiled.
