AUSTIN, Texas — By next year, the city of Austin is predicted to join the club of cities in the United States with a population of at least 1 million people.
According to CultureMap, City of Austin Demographer Ryan Robinson estimates that as of January 1st, the population was 981,035--less than 20,000 shy of the 1 million mark.
There are currently 11 cities in the U.S. with populations of at least a million, including Houston, San Antonio and Dallas.
In 2017, the U.S. Census Bureau had Austin as the 11th-largest city in the country, population-wise.
