AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is investigating the death of a person after they were struck by a train early Friday morning in south Austin.
Police say it happened around 12:30 a.m. in the area of Slaughter Creek and Meadowsouth Lane.

Police believe the person was either walking along the railroad tracks or was trying to cross when a train came along and struck them. The train stopped and the driver stayed on scene to cooperate with the invesigation.
The Austin-Travis County EMS medics sent out a tweet around 1:29 a.m. pronouncing the unidentified person's death on scene.
Police are now trying to piece together why the pedestrian was there in the first place. No further information was immediately available.
