Austin Police identify robbery suspect killed in crash trying to cross I-35
AUSTIN, Texas —
The Austin Police Department has identified a robbery suspect killed while trying to run across I-35 last week.
According to APD, a male and female committed a robbery by assault at a nearby Shell gas station around 1:46 p.m.
The female left in a vehicle, while the male left on foot.
When police spotted him, the man--identified at 40-year-old Christopher Brown--jumped over a concrete barrier and took off running across I-35 where he ran into the rear of a passing 18-wheeler.
He was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas, where he later died.
Police say the driver of the 18-wheeler was unaware of the impact and no charges are expected to be filed.
The female robbery suspect, 28-year-old Shanta Hatcher, is charged with aggravated robbery.
