Austin man gets busted on Craigslist then flees from police handcuffed

An Austin man has been arrested for escaping from custody after he was handcuffed for trying to sell a stolen item on line.

On July 3rd, undercover officers contacted Jonathan Michael Hernandez, 33, via Craigslist about a water heater that had been reported stolen to the Austin Police Department.

The officers and Hernandez agreed to meet at the Palms Car Wash on 1700 block of Willow Creek Drive. After making sure that the water heater was the stolen item, Hernandez was placed under arrest for several outstanding warrants.

On the way to jail, Hernandez stated he ingested narcotics. EMS transported Hernandez to Dell Seton for the ingestion of illegal narcotics.

After he was cleared, Hernandez was being walked to the patrol car while handcuffed when he decided to try and run away. According to the affidavit, Hernandez ran about 40 feet before being tackled on the edge of the roadway, W 15th Street.
