SWAT standoff resolved in North Austin

The SWAT standoff has been resolved. Police say the suspect is being taken into custody.

APD says they used chemical devices like pepper spray to end the standoff. So far, no weapon has been found.


A standoff between a SWAT team and a subject barricaded inside the La Quinta hotel at The Domain is unfolding Tuesday morning in in North Austin.

Austin Police Department tweeted around 6 a.m. that they were working the SWAT call-out in the in the 11000 block of N. MOPAC.

They received a call from an employee at La Quinta at around 5:25 a.m. According to police, a man walked inside the hotel to use the restroom.

When the employee asked the subject to leave, he refused and said he had a gun, says police.

The subject said he would shoot if officers came in the restroom.

Police say hotel guests are not allowed in or out of the hotel. Guests who are in their rooms are being quarantined and being told to remain inside.

Police say they haven't seen a weapon and believe the subject is under the influence of drugs.

Authorities advise to avoid the area.
