APD: Man dies from injuries in South Austin crash
Police say the man critically injured in a single-vehicle crash last week in South Austin has died.
It happened Sunday, Oct. 28, at around 10:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of W. Oltorf St., just east of the South Lamar Boulevard intersection.
Investigators with the Austin Police Department said a Mazda RX-8 was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed, when it lost control and struck a tree along the south side of the street.
The driver of the vehicle -- identified as Anthony Alexander Zangara, 32 -- was transported to St. David's South Austin Medical Center, where he died from his injuries two days later.
This is Austin's 62nd fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 63 fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, there were 55 fatal traffic crashes and 57 traffic fatalities, according to APD.
