A drug-deal gone wrong. New court records reveal what police think led to a deadly shooting in East Austin.

Last Thursday, officers found two men shot on Poquito Street near the Rosewood Avenue intersection.

Keevan Cubit, 26, died. The other man is expected to recover.

Now police believe they were shot while trying to rob another person during a marijuana deal. They think 17-year-old Alex Moux organized the robbery -- but things didn't go as planned. When he saw the victim drive up he decided to let Cubit and another man carry it out. Detectives say Cubit got in the car and tried to grab the victim's money, but failed. That's when Cubit pulled out a gun, but the driver of the car shot him first. The other man was shot by the driver as he tried to pull the passenger out of the car.

Court records say the shooter told police he opened fire because he feared for his life.

Now Moux, and his 18-year-old lookout, Jose Luis Vargas-Martinez, face aggravated robbery charges.
