An 18-year-old is facing a felony charge after allegedly hitting a student with her car in the parking lot of Del Valle High School and then fleeing the scene.

According to the arrest affidavit, 18-year-old Elena Munoz is charged with failure to stop and render aid.

It happened Monday at around noon at the high school located in southeast Travis County on Ross Road.

Court documents say Munoz had picked up a student at the school and was speeding through the parking lot when she hit the victim as he crossed a driveway while headed to class.

The student was able to memorize the car's license plate number as it fled, and police found it minutes later in a nearby subdivision, according to the affidavit. Munoz admitted to driving fast on the school's campus and said she had to stop abruptly as a male student walked across the street.

Surveillance video showed her car approach a group of students at a high rate of speed and then stopping as they jumped out of the way, according to court documents. The vehicle then quickly drives off campus. The injured student suffered a bruised ankle.
