Forever Families: Holiday Wishes
Partnerships for Children is determined to not only find a forever family for thousands of children, but also making the holidays memorable for those currently in the state's care.
The Holiday Wishes program has a warehouse full of presents that will be designated to thousands of kids looking for a loving home.
"We will likely serve 5,700 children this holiday season, which is about 750 more than we did last year," said Partnerships for Children board member Chrissy Compere.
Based on wish lists provided by over 200 case workers, volunteers are responsible for purchasing the top three items in order to fulfill each child's Christmas desire.
Compere has been a volunteer shopper for the program for the last couple of years, and she said the requests can be very unique.
"We had a little boy who asked for a tuxedo because he wanted to make a good impression on a possible future family, and we bought that tuxedo," said Compere.
The program has been around for 15 years, and it is paid for with money from grants, yearly fundraisers, and community donations.
Forever Families airs every Wednesday on CBS Austin News.
