WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - Earlier this week, first lady Melania Trump announced her new initiative, "Be Best."

This campaign focuses on three pillars of children’s issues: overall well-being, social media use, and opioid abuse prevention and education.

I know firsthand that these efforts by the first lady are authentic and heartfelt.

Mrs. Trump personally cares very deeply about children.

Mrs. Trump being at the forefront and launching this initiative is also a political win for the Trump administration.

The first lady is a popular figure who always exhibits grace and a ton of compassion for others, especially children.

According to a recent CNN poll, 57 percent of people have a favorable view of Mrs. Trump. That number has continuously climbed since January of this year.

Historically, first ladies have been great ambassadors for the White House. This first lady continues that trend.

Now with her initiative officially announced, you can expect Mrs. Trump to publicly represent this administration more and more often.

Also, do not under appreciate the first lady’s political influence. She often sits in on meetings with President Trump and advises him on key agenda topics beyond just those that she is publicly working on.

Here’s the bottom line: I am fully confident that the first Lady will work extremely hard to help our children as much as possible and make the "Be Best" campaign a real success. From the political standpoint, the more active and public Mrs. Trump, the better it is for President Trump and his administration.
