A murder victim has been identified following the release a sketch last week.

A news release from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office states Bonny Simmons was positively identified through dental records.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office released a sketch last week of what appeared to be a young girl whose body was found in a ditch more than a year ago. According to a post on the agency's Facebook page, the body of a small female, believed to be between the ages of 14 and 20, was found by a passerby along South W.W. White Road on April 30, 2017. At the time, very little information was released.

The remains were badly decomposed, and investigators had been unable to identify them. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office utilized the skills of Forensic Artist Betsy Cooper to create facial features for the unidentified female, and the sketch was released to the media.

Following the release of the sketch, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office received numerous calls. A mother came in believing the sketch could be her missing daughter. The mother provided a DNA specimen for comparison, and dental records were also obtained.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office says Simmons died from gunshot wounds and blunt force trauma to the head.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit will continue to investigate the murder of Bonny Simmons. If you have any information on the murder of Bonny Simmons, please immediately call the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 210-335-6070.
