The Hendrickson softball team enters round 2 of the UIL softball playoffs this weekend. What they are doing as team goes beyond belief though – they are just flat out unbelievable.
Following a last place finish four years ago, Michael Wozniak took over a program that was struggling. They missed the playoffs by just a game the following year and entering this year – Coach Woz believed the Hawks could make a run in the state playoffs.
The Hawks are making that run now – just without Coach Woz. On September 27, Wozniak suffered a heart attack and passed away. It was a time of disbelief for the girls, but they turned to each other to cope.
The team is playing for him every game. They bring his jersey with them to games and talk about him as if he were still there. In some cases – like when they see a bird in the outfield – they believe it’s him just checking in on his girls.
Despite their September heartbreak, the team bonded together in strength from their coach. They fight for him, they play for him, they win for him – and now they don’t just believe in him, they’re unbelievable for him.
