Houston-area teen gets deadly illness after intense workout
A family is warning people of the potentially life ending dangers behind working out too much. This after a Texas teen ended up in the hospital.
Seventeen-year-old Jared Shamburger got a gym membership with his family.
After an intense arm workout last week, the soreness and swelling weren't going away -- so his mom searched the symptoms up online and then rushed him to a hospital.
Jared was in the hospital for five days with rhabdomyolysis. It causes a breakdown of muscle tissue, releasing a damaging protein into the blood, possibly damaging the kidneys.
He is expected to recover.
