Delta introduces new baggage tracking system
AUSTIN, Texas —
One of the Nation's biggest airline companies, Delta, announced they will be spending $50 million to install a new baggage system.
The new system puts a tag with a small identification chip on a piece of luggage instead of a bar code.
This will allow both the airline and people to track their suitcase as it goes through the airport's baggage handling system in real time.
Other airlines are also making improvements to ensure fliers have a way to track their bags. American Airlines alerts flyers when their bags have put on or taken off a flight.
Alaska Airlines is testing a new program to see if the digital tags work better than the paper barcodes.
Delta's new luggage system will go online at 84 airports across the country in the following months.
