Armed fugitive captured near Highland Mall
UPDATE: W Lee Young III was arrested Wednesday by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Central Austin near the Highland mall area.
Officials say he tried to evade on foot but was quickly arrested. They say he had a firearm and other narcotics in his possession.
Further details were not immediately available.
The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is looking for a convicted felon that was caught with a gun and is likely hiding in Bastrop.
In the last decade, W Lee Young III has been involved in multiple crimes. He's supposed to stay away from weapons -- and when Bastrop authorities found him with a gun, he ran away.
It all started when a Bastrop woman lost her phone. She used an application to find her iPhone and it told her exactly where it was. Instead of going to retrieve it herself, she called the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office for help.
"The Bastrop authorities responded to that location to find the stolen property and came into contact with a Young," said U.S. Deputy Marshal Brandon Filla.
A deputy found Young in his car and right away he spotted a gun.
"For officer safety he asked Young to exit that vehicle and also close the door to prevent him from reaching that firearm," Filla said.
Young returned the iPhone and then the deputy began asking about the gun. But instead of answering, he ran.
"Young fled on foot, evaded from law enforcement and abandoned the car there," Filla said.
When Young escaped, he left the gun. But later, when deputies tried to find it, it was gone.
"That gun is still unaccounted for, that gun could still be in the possession of W Young III," Filla said.
Posing a threat for the residents of Bastrop.
"It would be a concern, number one, for officer safety concern, number two, for public safety," Filla said.
